LILA AMMONS JAZZ GROUP
June 21 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Lila Ammons is a versatile singer with broad experience. Born in Chicago, she has forged a path in music that honors tradition and her own expressive impulses. Beginning her vocal career in opera houses and concert halls, she later turned to her roots. Ammons comes from strong pedigree which has influenced her musical instincts. Her grandfather was esteemed Boogie Woogie pianist, Albert Ammons, and her uncle was tenor sax titan, Gene Ammons. Since 2008, Ammons has gained popular and critical acclaim touring Europe, Brazil, the UK, New York City and Michigan singing Classic Blues with German pianist Axel Zwingenberger, and as featured vocalist with a Classic Blues and Boogie Woogie quartet with Zwingenberger and Rolling Stones late drummer, Charlie Watts. As a solo jazz vocalist, Ammons has performed in England, Spain, Ireland, California, Chicago and Minnesota. In recent years, Ammons has had the good fortune to perform with many of the Twin Cities’ finest jazz instrumentalists, some of whom are part of her ensemble, “The Lila Ammons Jazz Group”. Through recordings and live performances alike, Ammons continues to attract new audiences with her nuanced vocal jazz narratives, a respect for jazz idioms, and an unpredictability that delights.
